01 What Do I Need To Know?

What age to acheive dryness day or night?

Normal: by age 3-4 years, abnormal wetting after age 5 years

Number of times urine is passed per day

Normal: 4-7 dependent on age, abnormal 3 or less per day

Post void residual volume

Nil

1-20 ml borderline

> 20 ml on repeat testing

Bladder capacity at different ages

  • Normal: (30mls x age) +30 ml
  • Normal is between 65%- 130% of expected bladder capavcity for age
  • Nocturnal polyuria is > 130% Expected bladder capacity EBC

How much fluid should my child drink each day?

Fluid requirements depend on temperature and activities undertken

It should be either water, juice or codrdial of about 50 ml per kg per day, the rest of teh fluids are sourced from other sources such as food.
