Breathing problems

Breathing problems are common in newborn infants. In most cases if presents as transient grunting respirations due to retained lung fluid. However if the breathing problems persist there are other causes that may need to be considered and admission to a neonatal nursery for extra care. Conditions discussed include wet lung, respiratory distress syndrome, meconium aspiration pneumothorax and pneumonia.
